Jiulong Hospital with an investment of 500 million yuan and over 600 beds is the first of its kind invested by overseas Chinese and its construction already started. 90% of blood in clinical use is from donation. A lab for bone marrow matching has been completed. By the end of 2003 there were 1,436 medical institutions, of which 205 are hospitals and clinics. The number of professional medical staff is 24,800, of which 10,300 are doctors. There are 20,000 beds within these medical institutions. The Healthy City Program has been launched. Suzhou has become the member city of Healthy City Association of WTO.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University
The Hospital of Suzhou was founded in 1883. It has become the largest general teaching hospital in the area and has a complete branch learning system. The high technical skill of the staff and facilities have won many awards and they have been praised for their medical ethics and development . The hospital holds the triple A award passed by the Department of Health Provincial Government of Jiangsu Province. The Second affiliated Hospital of Soochow University
The Second affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, founded in 1988, has the backing of the General Corporation of Nuclear Industry of China .It is also known as the General Hospital of Nuclear Industry and the Sixth People's Hospital of Suzhou. Since Oct. 1992 the hospital has established formal cooperation with the Public Health Bureau of Paris and has been officially named as the "Sino-French Friendship Hospital".The hospital has been appraised to be qualified as class A-in-Grade 3 (top grade) since 1995.The hospital covers an area of 70000 M 2 with floorage over 50000 M 2 and provides 550 beds. At present there are more than 800 staff, including 550 medico-technical personnel, and among them 64 holding senior professional titles with 40 tutors for doctoral and master postgraduate. The hospital is equipped with over 300 sets of sophisticated medical instruments.The hospital consists of 29 clinical departments. The extent of the hospital medical service covers the nation wide nuclear industrial organizations and the districts of Jiangsu , ZheJiang provinces and six county-level cities under the jurisdiction of Suzhou . The average annual number of outpatients for clinic and emergency visits amounts to 460000 and that of inpatients amounts to 10000.
